Step 5: Essence — Deep Hydration & Nourishment

Essence delivers deep hydration and nourishment in a lightweight, fast-absorbing layer. Think of it as fuel for your skin, priming it to get the most from your serums.

What Is an Essence?

An essence is a lightweight, fast-absorbing liquid that sits between toner and serum — more concentrated than toner, but thinner than most serums. It's a cornerstone of Korean skincare, loved for delivering intense hydration and skin-improving ingredients in a very gentle way.

Benefits of Using Essence as Step 5

  • Deep hydration. Essences are packed with humectants and skin-loving ingredients that penetrate deeply to plump and hydrate skin from within.
  • Improves skin texture. Many essences contain fermented ingredients, niacinamide, or peptides that refine texture and promote a smoother, more even complexion over time.
  • Boosts serum absorption. Essence creates the perfect base so your treatment serums can work more effectively.
  • Strengthens the skin barrier. Quality essences often include ceramides, centella, or panthenol to help repair and protect the barrier.
  • Gives that glass-skin glow. Regular use contributes to the dewy, luminous, lit-from-within look that defines glass skin.

How to Use Your Essence

  1. After your toner has fully absorbed, apply 2–3 pumps or drops to your palms.
  2. Pat gently onto your face and neck until absorbed.
  3. Layer 2–3 times for extra hydration, similar to the 7-skin method with toner.
  4. Continue with your treatment serum.

Pro Tip: Don't skip essence if your skin feels dehydrated or you want to maximize your serums' results — it's the secret weapon for that plump, bouncy, glass-skin texture. Look for fermented ingredients, hyaluronic acid, or niacinamide for best results.
